Learn the game, sharpen your play, or simply pull up a chair with the Lowcountry marsh glowing behind you.
A warm gathering built around connection, for entrepreneurs, builders, and community leaders at The Retreat at Marsh Manor, Outside Savannah.
Picture a long table on the deck at golden hour. Tea in hand, tiles clicking, the marsh turning amber behind you. Nobody is checking a phone. Someone just called a hand and the whole table is laughing.
That is Mahjong on the Marsh.
Whether you have never touched a tile or you have played for years, there is a seat for you here. You will leave with a sharper mind, a few new friends, and the feeling of having truly stepped away from the pace of your week.

A Clear Start: Basic Instruction
Never played? This is the place to begin. Over two and a half hours, we walk you through the game from the very first tile. You will hear a short history of American mahjong, meet the tiles and what they mean, and learn how to set up the table, deal, and take on the Charleston. From there we cover reading the card, drawing and discarding, calls, jokers, choosing a hand, and the etiquette that keeps a table friendly.
Then you put it all to work with one or two guided hands, so you leave knowing how to play.

You know the basics. Now let us help you feel at home at the table. Over two evening hours, experienced players and a teacher sit alongside you, helping with choosing a hand, Charleston strategy, discard decisions, spotting a mahjong when it appears, keeping your hand flexible, and knowing when to pivot. You will pick up good table habits along the way, and go home with printed materials to keep.
